SVALBARD SKI TRIP

Join us for an unforgettable ski expedition on Svalbard!

In just six days on skis, you’ll experience some of the very best that Spitsbergen has to offer. We venture into a maze of pristine glaciers surrounded by rugged mountains — far away from snowmobile traffic — before gliding down into Svalbard’s largest valley. Here, you truly feel the vastness and silence of the Arctic wilderness.

If you dream of joining a longer Arctic expedition someday, but want to build experience first, this trip is the perfect stepping stone. It’s also ideal for those who simply want a memorable adventure in Svalbard’s stunning nature but don’t have time for a long journey.

No expensive snowmobile shuttles or boat transports are needed — we start right where the road ends in Longyearbyen. After just a couple of hours on skis, we reach Janssondalen and find ourselves completely alone in the Arctic landscape.

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Longyearbyen to go through equipment and food. Pulkas are packed, and we review routines, the route, and plans for the coming days.

Day 2

We drive to the end of the road, near the now-closed Mine 7. From there, we begin skiing into the snowmobile-free area that starts in Janssondalen. With good progress, we might reach Møysalbreen before setting up our first camp.

Day 3

We pull our sleds up the glacier and into a beautiful system of ice and snow. By the end of the day, we establish camp near the top of Rugaasfonna.

Day 4

The journey continues over quiet glaciers. We cross another pass and descend onto Bergmesterbreen.

Day 5

By now, we’re finding our rhythm and feel as if we could keep going forever. The descent from Bergmesterbreen is one of the highlights of the trip. We reach Reindalen — Svalbard’s largest valley — surrounded by vast Arctic silence.

Day 6

We continue deeper into Reindalen before turning toward Tverrdalen, surrounded by open, snow-covered plateaus.

Day 7

Our final leg takes us down from Bolterskaret toward Bolterdalen. If time allows, we may visit one of the fascinating ice caves on Scott Turner Glacier before skiing the last few kilometers back to the road — where a vehicle will take us back to Longyearbyen.
